Steven Moffat & Mark Gatiss at the Arqiva British Academy Television Awards 2012 on May 27, 2012 in London.
Lovely photo of Mark Gatiss, Andrew Scott and Beryl Vertue (I confess I don’t kno the other lady).
Today’s South Bank Show Awards. Sherlock won for TV Drama.
There are a few events coming up to promote the airing of Sherlock on Masterpiece PBS in the US (from 6 May).
On 28th April SoCal PBS is holding a sneak peek of Sherlock: A Scandal in Belgravia at the Art Theatre of Long Beach. Sign up for tickets here and arrive early on the day.
On 1st May at 6:30 p.m. in Rochester New York WXXI is screening The Great Game followed by a sneak peak at Sherlock series 2 at the Little Theatre. It’s a free event and seating is first come first served (always brilliant to see Sherlock on the big screen).
On 2nd May PBS are holding the New York event with Benedict Cumberbatch, Steven Moffat and Sue Vertue in attendance (and in response to the 213 (yes count them) e-mails I have received no I don’t know where this is being held!)
There will be a Q&A, excerpt screening of Scandal and autograph reception. Tickets are by random draw with 200 available. Today is the last day to get entries in (1 entry per household multiples will be deleted). Send e-mails to sherlock@pbs.org and ibelieveinsherlock@pbs.org to enter.
on 5th May Rocky Mountain PBS in Denver is doing a Sherlock Holmes Scavenger Hunt and sneak peek screening.
The wording of the events suggests that the full episode of Scandal won’t be played at any of them - just excerpt screenings and sneak peeks but it all sounds like a lot of fun!
Thanks to Gay for telling me about the Denver event and Teresa for alerting me to The Great Game screening.
The nominations for the BAFTA Craft Awards will be announced later today (16th April). For reasons that sort of pass me by the categories that you would expect to be featured in the main BAFTA ceremony (directing, writing, music, editing etc) are all featured in the Craft Awards instead.
So all appendages crossed that later today we will be sending congratulations to Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat, Paul McGuigan, Charlie Phillips, David Arnold and Michael Price for their nominations.
Nominations for the main awards (including all the acting categories) are announced on 24 April.
Been a while since I did one of those so here’s where you can see Benedict & his co-stars in the coming weeks:
Benedict Cumberbatch
Currently in LA filming the Star Trek sequel. After Star Trek he is due to film the independent movie Phoenix with Liv Tyler.
He can currently be heard in the Google + advert (which launched today) reading The Seven Ages of Man.
Sherlock series 2, Wreckers and Fortysomething are now available to buy and War Horse (in which Benedict plays Major Stewart) is due for release on dvd in the US next week.
Benedict has been nominated for an Olivier Award and tickets to the ceremony (on 15th April) are now on sale to Mastercard holders for £90. Please note there is no guarantee Benedict will attend although certainly it is hoped he will.
Tickets are also on sale to this years BAFTA TV Awards on 28th May at the Southbank Centre. Balcony tickets cost £28. Not many seats left so do snap one up quickly if you’re thinking of attending.
NT Live will be doing encore screenings of Frankenstein in June. Do check the list of participating venues to see if there is one near you.
Martin Freeman
Currently in cinemas in the UK as the voice of The Pirate with the Scarf in Aardman’s The Pirates (he’s even a Happy Meal toy!)
Still filming The Hobbit in New Zealand.
Mark Gatiss
Currently in The Recruiting Officer at the Donmar Warehouse (until 14th April so be quick!) Its sold out but they have been releasing tickets every Friday. Follow the @donmarwarehouse on twitter for details.
Will be talking to Mark Lawson in an hour long piece on BBC 4 on Tuesday at 22:50. Definitely one not to be missed.
Horrible Histories returns to CBBC on Monday 9th April and Mark (along with Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton) will be appearing in the episodes aired on Monday 9th and Wednesday 11th.
Rupert Graves
Will be appearing in the new series of Doctor Who as a one off guest star.
Louise Brealey
Will be appearing at Collectormania Milton Keynes on Sunday 3rd June. Entry is free and Louise’s autograph will be £10 per item. She is also taking part in a photo-session with a mock up of the 221B door. This was also cost £10. Louise will also be giving a talk. (Please note Vinette has cancelled her appearance at this event).
Una Stubs
Will be appearing in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime at the National Theatre from July this year. Tickets go on sale to members this week.
Bertie Carvel
Still appearing in Matilda the Musical bt it has been announced that he will be leaving in July.
A tad late as I saw the play a couple of weeks ago now but here’s my review of The Recruiting Officer starring Mark Gatiss.
Cumberbatchweb Giveaway!
To celebrate reaching over 15,000 followers on twitter and over 6000 on tumblr (not to mention over 640,000 hits on the site which is just extraordinary thank you!) I thought I’d do a bit of a mini giveaway and as I love the theatre the competition has a bit of a theatrical bent.
One lucky winner will win everything in the photos above.
This includes:
A copy of the Frankenstein programme (in which Benedict starred alongside Jonny Lee Miller alternating roles as Victor Frankenstein and The Creature) along with a cardboard flyer advertising the show, flyer advertising the Dramatic Need Q&A, flyer advertising the NT Live screenings, flyer promoting the Frankenstein soundtrack and cast list. While you can still get the digital version of the programme the hard copy is out of print and I’ve seen them being sold for £20+ on ebay.
A programme from After the Dance, a 10 x 8 photo of my favourite promo shot from After the Dance and a flyer advertising The Childrens Monologues in which Benedict appeared. Again the After the Dance programme isn’t easy to obtain now and well worth having.
A copy of the programme from The Recruiting Officer (starring Mark Gatiss) along with a flyer for the show and a flyer and cast list for Seasons Greetings (which Mark was also in).
2 flyers for Emperor & Galilean and one flyer for Design for Living (all starring Andrew Scott), a flyer for Clybourne Park (starring Martin Freeman) and a flyer for Tender Napalm (starring Vinette Robinson).
I will also throw in a copy of the Evening Standard magazine with Benedict in the Seychelles , Starter for Ten on dvd and a few War Horse promotional bits and bobs.
To enter simply send an email headed “Cumberbatchweb Giveaway” and your name and address and the answer to the following simple question to
contact@benedictcumberbatch.co.uk
Question - Nancy Carroll is currently starring with Mark Gatiss in The Recruiting Officer. What’s the name of the play in which she starred opposite Benedict?
Competition is open to everyone worldwide and will close in 2 weeks on 10 March.
